Prepare yourself for one of the worst Christmas albums to ever exist. (And no, that's not the real cover; it was a vinyl boot of this album, retitled "Merry Christmas from the Califonia [sic!] Legends" to conceal the artist.)
Between "California Feeling" and "Winds Of Change", Mike and Al decided to put together a Christmas album at Maharishi International University. The result? Five Beach Boys recordings re-done with terrible seasonal lyrics (words cannot describe how poor the lyrics of "Santa's On His Way" are), three tracks that have nothing to do with Christmas whatsoever, an old Christmas-related b-side, and a handful of new season-appropriate compositions of varying merit. Not surprisingly, this mess of an album was never released.
But, hey, we're here for unreleased Beach Boys material, and someone asked to hear this utterly awful LP, so here it is - and I even added bonus tracks from the sessions, including a painfully hoarse Dennis pushing a toy drive! (Thank God they didn't redo "Hey Little Tomboy", Christmas style...) Enjoy, suckers! :-)
Get it here in 320 Kbps:
The original album:
01) Christmas Time Is Here Again [rewrite of "Peggy Sue"]
02) Child Of Winter [1974 B-side]
03) Winter Symphony
04) Michael Row The Boat Ashore
05) Seasons In The Sun ['20/20' outtake - and it has no purpose here]
06) Morning Christmas [aka "Holy Evening", from Dennis' 'Bambu' sessions]
07) Christmas Day [not the song from the 1964 Christmas LP]
08) Go And Get That Girl
09) Santa's On His Way [rewrite of "HELP Is On The Way"]
10) (I Saw Santa) Rockin 'Round The Christmas Tree [apparently a rewrite of an unreleased track called "Hey There Momma"?]
11) Xmas Carol Medley
Bonus tracks:
* Bells Of Christmas [rewrite of "Belles Of Paris"]
* I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
* Kona Christmas [aka "Melekalikimaka", rewritten as "Kona Coast"]
* Santa's Got An Airplane [rewrite of "Loop De Loop"]
* Toy Drive Commercial 1 ('Crystal Ship') [rewrite of "Little Saint Nick"]
* Toy Drive Commercial 2 (Dennis message)
